Surface film dives into the unique experience of four people in a water environment, where they can move more freely, use their bodies and sense their surroundings in a different way. Each of them has some disability or illness. Noora, who suffers from bone fragility, dances freely supported by the water, Tuukka, who was paralyzed in an accident, dives alongside the others, after losing her eyesight, Marina finds the freedom to control a vehicle in sailing, and Hanna’s muscle tension disappears in the ice-cold water. In the film, the characters reflect on the meaning of their own experience, boundaries and independence. Most importantly their experience of their own limits is not defined by others but from within themselves. The film talks about who has the power to decide what disabled and sick people get to experience.
